Organic Food: Does Candy Have a Place?

By Rob Sutter

Organic food is something that can bring a group of words into mind. If terms such as "healthful" and "pure" come to mind, I don't think you're alone on the matter. However, I feel as though people's views on what's organic are limited. What I mean by that is that people seem to think that such products are limited to produce and nothing else can be placed within the ranks. However, organic candy certainly exists and there are reasons as to why it has that title.

Organic food is something which has been misconstrued since it appears like people only believe fruits and vegetables belong in this category. Reputable internet platforms like Colle Farmers Market are in existence but it's not like such products stop there. In fact, if you'd like to take a moment to research, you'll see that there exists sweet and candy which are created with the base components. Without any added colors to be seen, they are as pure and untouched as one could imagine.

The ingredients in these candies are sourced carefully and ensure the highest level of health, considering what they are. They aren't going to take the place of salads, for instance, as healthful food products but they're still treats which don't add anything that doesn't have to be there. In fact, you'll be hard-pressed to find one bit of candy in this category which contains unnatural dye. For example, you can kiss red #40 near the nutritional information label goodbye.

This last Christmas, I was going through the store and I happened to stumble upon organic candy canes. In essence, these possessed not only a slightly different color scheme but a vastly different level of nutrition. This was due in no small part to the lack of corn syrup found. The one item which sweets seem to be built around could no longer be found here. These canes, to me at least, were tastier and I didn't feel nauseous at the synthetic sweetness I had come to expect.

As someone who hasn't given much attention to organic products in the past, I can certainly say that the change was a good one for a while. If people are concerned about price, then I don't think it's very founded. What you're getting is far better than anything else you could put down money for, even if it's for something as trivial as candy. Sometimes we all need to take a break and snack on something, which is what organic candy can prove to do.

Is It Honestly True That Organic Food Can Improve Your Health?

By Jason Cooper

Organic Produce, Is It Really Advantageous?

Organic food is nothing new and has been with us for thousands of years, however recently more people have been taking an interest in it and the word organic has turned into a big buzz word. The organic food marketplace is prospering because lots of folks are taking a strong interest and they tend to be more expensive than non-organic food. Keeping all this in mind, the question needs to be asked; is organic food really beneficial or even necessary for our bodies? Should we be paying out more money on food that is allegedly better for people?

To determine all the information and facts, lets take an initial look at what the term "organic" really means to us. When something is organic it indicates that it has not had anything added to it. Such things as synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, unnatural fertilizers and pesticides will not be used with organic food. Regarding the essential protein foods such as eggs, dairy and meat, antibiotics or Growth Hormone (GH) are not given to the animals.

The procedure for growing commercial organic food is not an easy one as a total of 3 years have to pass before their crops can be termed "organic" For the initial two years the fertility of the farm land must be built up and only after that are crops allowed to be grown. Essentially, growing organic food is no easy process and thus the price tag can be justified But the question still has to be posed; is this all important? Is organic produce really going to make a considerable improvement to my health?

The great thing is that you will discover many other good reasons to buy organic food. Firstly, organic food has much more nutritional value then the non-organic alternative. Researchers have learned that milk obtained from cows that had been only given organic food had about 70% more Beta Carotene, 50% more Vitamin E and contained twice as many natural antioxidants and more Omega 3 then cows that were given chemically enhanced food. Organic food is also free of the various chemically enhancing agents mentioned earlier which often can have a damaging effect on your health. When toxins are added to food, it also increases the number of cancer causing substances which will be averted by using organic food. Even though it is a personal choice, many people state that they appreciate the taste of organic food and that it is a main reason why they are happy to spend the extra money on it.

Organic food is certainly also very good with regard to the environment. This is because organic food has not been force-fed any insecticides and pesticides when it is grown. Although this does take significantly more effort and time, it has a positive effect on the environment with the absence of the chemicals that are usually used. Pollution is adding to the important dilemma of global warming, however organic farming keeps pollution to a minimum which is good news. It is also important to observe that when farm animals are raised on organic food they are also usually treated well so that they will also produce well. Unlike the small cages and the force feeding operations witnessed on many other farms, organically fed animals are often "free range" and are allowed to walk around in open areas.

The facts are quite obvious; organic food is more desirable for the environment, the welfare of the animals and certainly for your health. Now its just up to you to make the final choice. Of course, as stated at the beginning, the price of organic food can be substantially higher then normally produced food. But always remember that when purchasing on the organic market you are doing something good for yourself and for the environment so personally I feel it is a small price to pay.

Organic foods and The Mediterranean Diet

By Lee Carter

The United States is the leader in obesity levels around the world, with an estimated 72% of the population overweight or obese as a direct result of eating processed foods. Thankfully, more and more Americans are finally waking up to the reality of whole foods and organic produce and are beginning to pursue diet plans such as the Mediterranean diet, which focused on whole foods rather than processed poisons.

More than 70% of the protein and nutrients in the Mediterranean diet are coming from a natural, raw sources. The other 30% is coming from fish, eggs and other products which, although they are whole foods, are nevertheless cooked in some manner to become edible. However, there are absolutely no artificial coloring additives or flavor additives or preservatives in the Mediterranean Diet.

The most difficult aspect of the Mediterranean diet for many people in the United States is the fact that this is a whole food diet plan, which means everything about it requires a little bit of preparation in the kitchen. You can't just unwrap a wrapper and stuff something in your mouth through the Mediterranean diet, because nothing within this diet plan is processed or pre-packaged.

The Mediterranean diet is chock full of easy to cook and quick to prepare recipes. There are no 30 minute recipes that require you to slave away in the kitchen; rather, there are simply lots of fruits and vegetables and salads that can be thrown into a bowl and quickly prepared with a minimum of effort. Sometimes you might need to cook some fish or eggs, but even then it only takes a few minutes.

All you have to do if you need more proof about the power of the Mediterranean diet is to simply take a look at the people living in the Mediterranean region of the world. None of them are fat, none of them are suffering from diseases like diabetes, and they live significantly longer than their American counterparts. If you are looking for a whole foods diet plan, this is the first and last place you need to look.

The Mediterranean Diet for Fat Loss

By Ben Harper

Obesity is a basic problem for many people and a cause for many life-threatening ailments like hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. It is important to follow a good diet strategy to reduce your excess body's weight and keep your fitness levels at peak performance along with keeping your metabolism ramped up. The Mediterranean Diet is considered the leading whole foods diet plan for those who are looking for a well-balanced lifestyle.

Bread, especially pita bread, takes up a major portion of this diet as long as it is whole wheat. You are encouraged to eat natural, raw and unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, beans, grains, legumes and fresh herbs. Intake of dairy products like milk, egg, cheese, and yogurt is on a daily basis to keep those probiotic levels up.

The Mediterranean Diet is easy to follow and anyone can enjoy the health benefits from a whole foods way of life. The Mediterranean pyramid is a most important tool for understanding the types of food preferred, as it is a graphical representation that explains the types and the frequency of food that can be taken in by any person. The largest bottom portion of the pyramid is occupied by the types of food that should be taken on a daily basis. This part contains rice, bread, couscous, pasta, potatoes, grains and polenta, salads, cheese, yogurt, fruits, vegetables and whole foods.

Consumption of the caffeinated drinks like coffee, and tea is generally not preferred by the people of the Mediterranean region, but it's not going to harm you if you like your coffee every morning. Wine and beer is absolutely allowed and encouraged on a nightly basis, but red meat is only allowed once or twice a month.

Olive oil is the preferred edible oil since it is a healthy monounsaturated fat, which helps increase the levels of good cholesterol in your body. Other unhealthy unsaturated fats are completely avoided for cooking purposes in this diet plan. Butter, for example, is out of the questions, as is margarine (totally chemical based; nothing whole food or natural about that!), but any type of natural, cold-pressed oil can be used, such as hemp seed oil and avocado oil.

There are various weight loss diet plans available today for those who are uncomfortable and sick due to their excess weight. However, the strict routines suggested by these diet plans makes it difficult for most people to follow them for a longer period of time because they enter depression. Many people prefer dieting for losing their weight, but as soon as they return to their original eating habits they easily gain the weight back.

The Mediterranean diet is popular among many weight loss aspirants since one can easily create their choice of recipes from the wide varieties of allowed food products. This provides you a feeling of pleasure and keeps you satisfied since you don't have to excessively limit your meals and it keeps you from getting bored with your diet. At the end of the day, ever little bit of motivation helps to keep you on track!

The Heritage Of Mexican Food

By Laura Gallagher

The entire world is actually intrigued by how authentic edibles from Mexico are. Some years ago, before the Spaniards came to the land of Mexico, the country already had its set of cuisine traditions. But now, different dishes including Baja Mexican food is now widely available.

Baja California dishes incorporate the dishes native to Mexico and those introduced when the Spaniards came. Before the appearance of these foreigners in their land though, the natives had their own set of spices and ingredients to use, the most common of which are beans and corn.

Corn is a very common grain all over the world. It is used for creating the dough of tamales and tortillas. It can also be eaten as corn in the cob. And the spices that the natives commonly used included chili peppers, tomatoes, cilantro and cinnamon which are pretty much effective in adding richness to flavor.

As for the desserts, the natives loved to use honey as commercial sugar was not yet available at that time. Chocolate was also commonly used during religious rituals and even as a currency between natives and other nationals. Contrary to what we usually do to chocolate now, it was first drunk by the natives from Mexico.

Fruits are also very typical in the country. They have been using guavas, papayas, avocados and pineapples as ingredients for some of their desserts and even main dishes. The natives also relied on their supplies of vanilla, sunflower seeds, peanuts and chicle. As for meat, fish, goat and turkeys were the commonly used ones before the Spaniards came.

Because of the incorporation of spices and herbs to their dishes, Mexicans regard their diet as healthier in some sense. In fact, nowadays, many people crave for the unique taste of their cuisines every. They are already being offered in several restaurants.

If you are one of those craving for baby food recipe, be sure you eat at a good restaurant. A good restaurant is characterized by its availability of the best ingredients, the best chefs, the best customer service, and even the best sanitation condition for all clients.
